DESCRIPTION:Green Sunday, June 12th, 5 - 6:30 pm\n\nA Brief History of Nuclear Mayhem
and the Environmental Consequences of the Past 70 Years\n \nWe will be
presenting a general overview of how nuclear power works, it's actual
carbon footprint and cost and the many nuclear disasters resulting from
it's relatively brief history. Fukushima is just the latest catastrophe
and in a technologically advanced country, which begs the question, "Is
there safe nuclear power?"\n \nThe waste from these plants becomes a
problem for hundreds of thousands of years. We will explain why and the
extraordinary measures needed to safeguard this material.\n \nWe will also
highlight a few actions that people can take to oppose nuclear power,
especially some related to the two existing California nuclear plants.\n
\nOur presenter, Dave Heller, has been an active Green Party member for
over a decade, and is a current member of our County Council. He was our
most recent local candidate for U.S. Congress, and in 2004 served as the
Campaign Coordinator for Berkeley's "Instant Runoff Voting" campaign
(Measure I). Dave earned a degree in physics from Bard College as well as
a Masters of Architecture from The San Francisco Institute of Architecture.
\n \nSPONSOR: Green Sundays are a series of free programs & discussions
sponsored by the Green Party of Alameda County. They are held on the 2nd
 Sunday of each month. \n
