 St.\nSanta Cruz, CA\n\n\nSanta Cruz City Council will vote on a resolution 
 calling on county officials to stop the deportations for the overwhelming 
 majority of immigrants booked at the county jail but not convicted of any 
 serious crime... to provide access to immigration legal services for anyone 
 who is subject to deportation... and to support AB 1081 which honors local 
 governments' right to opt out of the Secure Communities deportation 
 program. \n\n“Secure Communities” (S-Comm) is a federal program that 
 requires local law enforcement agencies to share the fingerprints of all 
 people arrested to immigration enforcement and target those suspected of 
 immigration violations for detention and deportation. \n\nICE has sold 
 S-Comm to local police departments as a program focused on Level I 
 “high-threat” criminal immigrants.\n\nAccording to ICE's own data, the 
 vast majority (79 percent) of the people deported due to S-Comm are 
 non-criminals or were picked up for lower level offenses, such as traffic 
 offenses or petty juvenile mischief. \n\nIn Santa Cruz County, the 
 percentages of persons deported who are categorized as non-criminals or low 
 level offenders is 86%, higher than the national average.\n\nJoin us in 
 speaking in favor of the resolution before the Santa Cruz City Council in 
 support of AB 1081 (The Trust Act) which would give local jurisdictions the 
 choice of participating or not participating in the program.\n\nContact,
