DESCRIPTION:Come spend an evening with Tim DeChristopher and Peaceful Uprising! Help us
raise funds for the 30 activists arrested at US Capitol last
week!\n\nPeaceful Uprising, a collective headquartered in Salt Lake City,
is committed to creating a healthy and just future through empowering
peaceful direct action. It was co-founded by Ashley Anderson and Tim
DeChristopher, following Tim's act of civil disobedience in which he
derailed a feder...al oil and gas lease auction in December of 2008.
Outbidding the industry giants, Tim salvaged thousands of acres of pristine
redrock Utah lands. This past February, he was found guilty on two felony
counts for his creative direct action and now faces up to 10 years in jail
and a $750,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for June
 23rd.\n\nwww.peacefuluprising.org\n\nLast week, thousands of eager
activists converged in Washington D.C. for the national Power Shift
conference, at which numerous keynote speakers (including Van Jones, from
Green for All, and Bill McKibben, from 350.org), urged the climate movement
to crank it up a notch. 30 activists responded by taking a stand,
peacefully, at the nation's US Capitol. On Friday, nine of them stood up
and sang an edited version of "Star splangled banner" and disrupted a
session of Congress. And the following Monday, 21 activists of all ages sat
in the Department of Interior singing protest songs such as "We shall
overcome" and "We shall not be moved."\n\nFor more info, check out this
 great Huffington Post
 article:\nhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/ted-glick/not-so-starryeyed-anymore_b_852046.html\n\nToday,
these 30 activists face potentially severe fines and, for some of them, a
maximum of 6 months in jail. As a movement, we need to stand behind our
brothers and sisters, especially through this legal process. They were
inspired to take a stand, to hold their ground, ready to face the
consequences. Now, it's up to us to create a national network of support,
to give these brave peaceful activists the assurance that they are not
alone and empower the next wave of activists who are considering taking a
similar stand.\n\nCome join us on Saturday April 30th, from 6.30-10pm!
We'll have music, videos and photos from the actions, and guest
speakers.\n\nSuggested $20 donation at the door. although no one will not
be turned away for lack of funds.\n\nWHEN: 6.30-10.30pm\nWHERE: Mercury
Cafe (201 Octavia St. San Francisco, CA 94102).\n\nIf you cannot make it to
the event, please donate to the legal fund
