DESCRIPTION:Chabot College faculty and students will host a teach-in and demonstrate 
 against Calpine's proposed power plant in Hayward. This power plant was 
 proposed during the energy "crisis" and is a step backward for all 
 interested in sustainable, environmentally-friendly energy production. 
 Please join us!\n\nAs you may or may not be aware, Texas-based energy 
 company Calpine is planning to build a highly polluting natural gas power 
 plant on the Hayward shoreline: the "Russell City Energy Center." An 
 environmental impact analysis showed that Chabot College will be ground 
 zero for the pollution that will be generated by the plant, due to the 
 prevalent direction of winds from the Bay.  \n\nThe Chabot-Las Positas 
 Community College District, together with many Hayward residents and 
 environmental and social justice organizations, has been fighting this 
 proposed plant for several years.  The ammonia, particulate matter, and 
 other toxic substances the plant will spew out have been shown to have 
 long-term health consequences for anyone living, working, or attending 
 school within a three-mile radius of the plant, with the most severe health 
 consequences affecting children (and there are numerous schools and 
 preschools in this area, as well as Chabot and its daycare center).  At 
 present, the case is in line to be considered by the 9th District Court of 
 Appeals in SF.  \n\nConcerned students, faculty, staff and community 
 members are organizing a teach-in at Chabot to educate the public about the 
 facts around this plant, on Tuesday, May 3 at noon.  A large-scale march 
 against the plant is being organized for Thursday, May 5 also at noon.  
 Both events will begin on the Chabot campus.  Please see the attached fact
