DESCRIPTION:Join Community United Against Violence (CUAV) to celebrate the resilience
and creativity of the Bay Area's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and
queer (LGBTQ) communities. From April 14-17, in Berkeley, Oakland, and San
Francisco, the Bay Area's oldest LGBTQ anti-violence organization, CUAV,
will host its second annual safetyfest, 4 days of free workshops, parties,
healing, and culture to end all forms of violence. "For so many LGBTQ
people, abuse, violence, poverty, imprisonment, and deportation are the
norm, not the exception," said CUAV advocate M. Carolina Morales. "Real
LGBTQ safety is something we create together, and safetyfest 2011 is a
testament to our collective power to do just that." \n\nFestival attendees
can choose from a range of topics and activities to learn about--from
creative writing to self-defense, acupuncture to theater, mural-making to
healthy relationships from 10am-6pm, Friday at the Ed Roberts Campus in
Berkeley and Saturday at Everett Middle School in SF’s Mission District.
