DESCRIPTION:The Henry George Historical Society & The Commons SF host "Alternative
Money in Transition Town times," with Mira Luna.\n\nThe economy is in a
great state of crisis and transition. Its systemic flaws and massive
failures in meeting people's needs and caring for the Earth have been
shockingly revealed in the last few years, shattering our beliefs in our
economic system. \n\nOur energy tends to flow towards all the things we
don't want to happen and away from things that would make us happy and that
we value. If economic reform is impossible at higher levels or
insufficient, then how can we regain control over our economy, our life's
energy, and create a local economy that moves us towards our common goals
and highest values? \n\nAt the core of this new economy is local democratic
control, cooperation, and community (and ecological) relationships.
Alternative economic projects, like local currencies, can be a fulcrum
point to transition the Bay Area economy by providing a means to value and
reward positive economic activity that might not happen with US dollars and
to rebuild the relationship-based village economy. \n\nHow can alternative
economic projects start working together to create a formidable challenge
to the dominant system? Bring an open mind and your own ideas and questions
to revision our economy together.\n\nDoor opens at 6:30 pm. Supper at 7.
 Talk at 7:40. Q&A and discussion 8-9 pm. FREE.\n\n
