DESCRIPTION:With Bria Morgan and Devin\n\nThe fight for the rights of state workers in
Wisconsin to bargain collectively has resulted in one the largest protest
movements the country has seen in recent years. It has brought together
some of the most unlikely allies--radical antiauthoritarians, police
unions, teachers, graduate students, labor activists, firefighters, and
environmentalists. to name a few. These groups joined together in rallies
...over 100,000 strong and in occupying the capitol building for almost
three weeks. While there are many intriguing aspects to these protests, one
of the most fascinating was the culture that developed inside the capitol
itself. Bria will talk about her experiences in the capitol itself, how
that culture reflected and was reflected by the larger protest movement,
and what it means when anarchists are sharing inflatable mattresses with
cops in support of teacher's rights. Devin will speak about resistance and
organizing in Milwaukee--in particular the occupations and strikes on the
University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee campus, and the neighborhood assembly
in the Riverwest area, home to much of Milwaukee's anarchist activity--and
lessons for a potentially similar situation in California.\n\nBria, a
native of Madison, went back there for five days and four nights during the
capitol's occupation, where she worked closely with the people managing the
internal logistics of the capitol, primarily coordinating volunteers to do
everything from trash pickup to food prep. She is a longtime activist, and
has worked on everything from antiwar campaigns to radical bike advocacy to
climate justice issues as a collective member of Rising Tide North America.
Currently, Bria works on indigenous rights and forest conservation as the
director of the Borneo Project.\n\nDevin grew up in rural Wisconsin, and
divides his time between the Bay Area and Milwaukee. He's been involved
with anarchist organizing in Wisconsin for the better part of a decade.
Devin is involved with the Station 40 events collective as well as the
Cream City Collective and Burnt Bookmobile in Milwaukee. In his free time,
he writes and theorizes about the intersections of queer theory,
insurrectionary anarchy, and antistate communism.\n\n$2-5 donation toward
Station 40's events infrastructure fund (but no one turned away for lack of
 money)\n\n* * *\n\nStation 40 is a collectively run, anticapitalist
community events space by and for anarchists, heretics, queers,
autonomists, and many others who seek an egalitarian world without
hierarchy. Police and other law enforcement officials, uniformed or
otherwise, are not permitted or welcome.\n\n
