DESCRIPTION:Anarchism has changed profoundly over the course of the twentieth century,
but the movement's recent history has not been well documented. In this
talk, followed by a discussion, Andy Cornell will address the ways that
anarchist theory, strategy, and art evolved from the outbreak of World War
I to the end of the Vietnam War. Sharing dozens of archival photographs,
letters, periodicals, and newspaper clippings, he'll explore anarchist
responses to the Great Depression and New Deal; the rise of
anarcho-pacifism, consensus, and prefigurative politics in the 1940s; and
anarchist contributions to the black freedom movement, beat generation, and
New Left.\n\nAndy is the author of Oppose and Propose! Lessons from
Movement for a New Society (IAS/AK Press, 2011) and "For a World without
Oppressors": U.S. Anarchism from the Palmer Raids to the Sixties (Phd
diss., 2011). He works as an educator and labor organizer in New York
 City.\n\nSee also http://akpress.org/2011/items/opposeandpropose\n\n$3-10
