 Berkeley\nhttp://www.lapena.org/event/1708\n\nTwo of the most recognized
Bay Area Mexican voices MamaCoAtl and Diana Gameros team up to present an
evening of original and traditional songs and poetry celebrating
International Women's Day and supporting the No+Bloodshed campaign against
violence in Mexico.\n\nThis is an exceptional opportunity to see and hear
two sophisticated styles and unyielding voices united in their passion for
the song, the poem, social justice and solidarity with the people whose
skin is the color of the Earth.\n\nIn light of the immigration debate and
the tremendous violence shaking Mexico, these songstresses have come
together to support the No+Bloodshed campaign initiated by political
cartoonist Rius to bring attention to Blackwater operations in Mexican
territory (the for-profit private mercenary army that lost its license to
operate in Iraq).\n\nMamaCoAtl\nMission District-based poet, songstress,
healer, and cultural and spiritual activist. She has curated ceremonies to
heal the Amazonic River Mother of God at the Bolivia-Brazil-Peru border,
concerts for peace on places desecrated by femicide in Mexico's highways
and periodically organizes healing days (called Limpias in Spanish) in
public plazas in the United States. Blessed by a San Francisco mayoral
proclamation, MamacoAtl began curating the first International Day for the
Elimination of Violence toward Women and Girls in San Francisco, and the 16
Days of ARTivism for the Healing of Violence.\n\n"For those who demand
comparison, she's somewhere between Lila Downs, Ani DiFranco and Nina
Simone, incorporating a fearless, feminine rearticulation of trova (Latin
American protest song) and spoken word infused with jazz, funk and
traditional Mexican sounds." plume noir LA.\n"Mamacoatl is the ultimate
performance ARTivist: the creative feminine soul that heals, inspires and
links international communities together." KPFA-FM, Berkeley.\n\nDiana
Gameros\nFrom Juárez, México, Diana is an Indie, World, Latin & Folk
singer/songwriter now living in San Francisco. Diana's music ranges from
traditional Mexican styles of playing to Latin pop/bossa nova rhythms. Her
striking vocal ability, gentle and expansive sound of the guitar and
deepness of her lyrics makes her one of the most versatile performers in
the Bay Area.\n\nDiana has performed at many activist and community events
as a way to create awareness and to support non-profit organizations of the
Bay Area. Some of these organizations include Day Worker Center of Mountain
View, ALIADI (Alianza Latinoamericana por los Derechos de los Inmigrantes),
Critical Resistance, Community Grows, among others. Music and cultures from
around the world have inspired Diana to sing in different languages
 (Spanish, English, and French).\n\nMore Information
