DESCRIPTION:Tasers have been shown by a recent UCSF study—the biggest of its
kind—to sextuple deaths in custody in the first year after a police
department adopts Tasers, & to keep deaths at 155% of a five-year pre-Taser
baseline in subsequent years. Tasers do not prevent police shootings: In
fact, police shootings of civilians more than double in the first year
after Taser adoption, & remain at 137% of baseline in following
 years.\n\nOn Wednesday, 23 February, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 400, San
Francisco's Police Commission will determine whether or not to allow the
Police Department to create a plan for Taser adoption. We need our
community's voices of dissent to be heard!\n\nThe Police Department plans
to "load up"—that is, turn out in large numbers so as to intimidate the
Commission—so please come early (before 5:00) to make sure you get a
seat. We will, however, have a respite room, so you won't need to stay in
one spot for the entirety of the hearing.\n\nChildcare & Spanish
translation for public comment will be available.\n
