… ILA Charleston S.C. Local 1422 President &\n\n International Vice
President of International Longshoremen's Association\n\nIntroduction: Tim
Paulson - Executive Director San Francisco Labor Council\n\n CAMPAIGN TO
FREE THE CHARLESTON FIVE !\n\nIn 2000 the Black majority ILA Local 1422 was
targeted by the South Carolina government for its activism, including
seeking to remove the Confederate flag from the State Capitol. Just days
after their participation in the biggest civil rights protest in 40 yrs.
and the biggest in S.C. history (46,000 people), 600 police attacked their
picket at a scab terminal operation. 5 longshoremen were arrested on
trumped up charges. The struggle to free them and stop the scab operation
was won with international solidarity action and support around the
country. \n\nSTUGGLE AGAINST DEL MONTE and HOLT SCABBING\n\non the
EAST COAST\n\nIn Sept. 2010 Del Monte announced it would move its
banana/pineapple import\n\noperation from Philadelphia ILA Local 1291 port
 (wage $17 hr.+ up) across the\n\nriver to non-union Holt Logistics(wage
$8.50 hr.+ up). On Labor Day ILA 1291 \n\nMembers dumped pineapples into
the Delaware River. Then on Sept.28 – 29 \n\nrank and file pickets
 sparked a wildcat strike that shutdown N.Y./N.J. (3,600 \n\nILA
members) and Baltimore (1,000 ILA) Ports. This struggle has now turned
to\n\n a boycott of Del Monte produce.
\n\n\nPUBLIC WELCOME ! Sponsored By ILWU
Local 10 Education Committee EVERYONE WELCOME !\n
