DESCRIPTION:Tonight, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is hosting a
dinner to celebrate its 100th anniversary and to raise corporate money for
the recently created CPUC Foundation, soliciting funds from the same
corporations the CPUC is charged with regulating.\n\nCorporations buying
$20,000 tables include Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern Ca Edison and San
Diego Gas &Electric.\n\nSteve Larson, former CPUC Executive Director, is
organizing the\nevent. Larson currently works with California Strategies,
a lobbying firm where he specializes in energy and utility policy. Gov.
Jerry Brown is expected to speak at the dinner.\n\nWhen: Thursday January
 27, 2011. Doors open at 6 PM, dinner at 7:20 PM.\n\nResidents and
grass-roots organizations critical of the CPUC's\nindustry-friendly
policies and lack of effective regulatory oversight with regard to gas
pipeline safety, wireless facilities in public rights-of-way, and Smart
Meters will peacefully demonstrate outside the dinner. If We the People
don't challenge the foxxes guarding the henhouses, who will? \n
