DESCRIPTION:What’s Going On in Haiti\n Haiti Action’s Leslie Mullin\n Tuesday,
January 18, 1 PM\n Fireside Room, Unitarian Center\n1187 Franklin St.,
(at Geary)\nEarthquake, rains, cholera, and an imposed election: Haiti
copes with lack of food, water, tents, jobs, and with brutal repression,
while the US and Canada, who want to remodel Haiti as a tropical sweatshop
withhold most of their aid.   Haiti Action’s Leslie Mullin  was in
Haiti in August visiting refugee camps and meeting with grassroots
Haitian  women’s groups which are determined to resist domination. We
will review  US involvement, the Aristide’s ouster, and hear about the
roles of NGOs and the UN. Are they  serving any useful purpose? What
kinds of grassroots movements offer hope? How can we help?   Leslie
Mullin has also reported on the cholera outbreak,   Haiti’s grassroots
movements,   and the role of the US and UN.  \n\n\n
