DESCRIPTION:A progressive presence is needed at this evening's vigil for the victims of
the Tucson shooting. The vigil, at 5pm in Oakland's Frank Ogawa Plaza, is
sponsored by various centrist Democratic groups (Cal Berkeley Democrats,
Courage Campaign, CREDO Action, the city of Alameda Democratic Club, East
Bay Democracy for America, etc.), but where is the progressive
voice?\n\nThe event is open to the public, so everyone is invited -- come
and make yourself heard! Have something to say about this history-changing
incident? This is just about the only Bay Area public event about the
Tucson shootings, so this is our one chance to have our voices
 heard.\n\nMore info

tomorrow at Oakland City Hall for Arizona victims\n\nOAKLAND -- The East
Bay Young Democrats and other civic organizations will hold a candlelight
vigil outside Oakland City Hall on Wednesday evening for Arizona Rep.
Gabrielle Giffords and other victims of violence.\n\nGiffords, a Democrat,
was wounded Saturday in a shooting in Tucson, Ariz., in which 20 people
were shot and six people were killed, including U.S. District Court Judge
John Roll, who was a Republican.\n\nJonathan Bair, of the East Bay Young
Democrats, said the purpose of the candlelight vigil is to condemn
political violence and violence in the local community.\n\nThe co-sponsors
of the event include Cal Berkeley Democrats, Courage Campaign, CREDO
Action, the city of Alameda Democratic Club, East Bay Democracy for
America, NWPC-AN, South County Young Democrats and the Wellstone Democratic
Renewal Club.\n\nAlthough the vigil is being sponsored by a number of
Democratic groups, Bair said it is "a nonpartisan event" and also will
include clergy and other community leaders.\n\n"We want to express
solidarity with the victims," he said.\n\nThe vigil will be held at Frank
Ogawa Plaza outside Oakland City Hall from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday."\n
