YOU Can Stop the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement\n\n\nWe noticed that you
have shown an interest in helping us to defeat the Korea-US Free Trade
Agreement. We appreciate you reading our messages in the past and taking
action. But in order to achieve this goal, we are going to need your help
again!\n\nPresident Obama is expected to seek Congressional approval of the
very slightly altered Korea-US Free Trade Agreement first put forward by
the Bush administration very soon. We need you and your representatives to
let Obama know that this is a bad move for the US, a bad move for South
Korea and a bad move politically. \n\nNow that all negotiations are
complete, one of our only chances to defeat the agreement in the US is to
act now! We believe that despite the fact that the agreement is wildly
unpopular among both the left and the right at the grassroots level, it
will likely pass if brought before Congress. Our best chance to stop this
agreement (and the way it will pave for a flurry of similar agreements if
it passes, including the odius Colombia FTA) is to prevent the agreement
from even hitting the floor by urging our representatives to tell Obama
that this move is politically toxic. \n\nThis is where you come in! In
order to organize a Congressional response by Democrats who do not want to
vote against their weakened president and Republicans eager to please their
party leaders, we need your help! Your elected representatives need to know
that it will be very politically risky for them to support this, or any
other free trade agreement. They need to tell President Obama and the
Republican leaders that they don't want to have to go on record in choosing
between what their party leaders want and what their own constituents want.
This is the political calculation that made it impossible for Bush, and so
far Obama, to move these long-ago negotiated free trade agreements to
Congress. We need to make it very clear that this political calculus has
not changed!\n\nWe are asking you to organize a delegation locally to carry
this message to your Representative's district (or even DC) office. If you
can't put together a delegation, you can still go as a delegation of
one!\n\nThe Alliance for Global Justice will support you in these efforts.
If you would like to help start a local delegation to speak with your
elected officials, please contact us. We can supply you with talking points
and informational materials. Please contact Jamie Way at info@afgj.org for
additional information, or to let us know of actions that you will be
taking locally. We grassroots activists are going to have to work together
and work hard to defeat this agreement. We hope you will help us lead the
way in this fight!\n\nAlliance for Global Justice\n1247 E St.,
