DESCRIPTION:"Queers, Gringos, and Other Deviants", is a series of urgent new films
surveying the contemporary social landscape of Mexico produced by students
and professors from the School of Arts of the State University of Morelos
(U.A.E.M) just South of Mexico City. \n\nThe legalization of same-sex
marriage in Mexico City paved the way for “Transgresiones y
Diversiones,” a selection of shorts produced by students last semester in
the first undergraduate Queer Cinema class ever to be offered in Mexico.
Young, queer, first-time filmmakers offer their personal and political
visions in these fresh short films.\n\nIn times of violent social upheaval
in Mexico, U.A.E.M. Professor Greg Berger’s ongoing Revolutionary Tourist
Project brings improvised comedy to the streets. "Spring Breakers Sin
Miedo" and "Jodido México 2010” are two of the latest shorts in this
irreverent series.\n\nBalancing the evening is “The Right to Choose in
Peace,” a documentary produced for Latin American network Telesur about
the successful, historic struggle to decriminalize abortion in Mexico City
and the current threat of violence to women and physicians posed by the
collaboration of the Mexican anti-choice movement with radical right-wing
organizations based in the United States.\n\nGreg Berger is a Mexico based
filmmaker, lecturer, and revolutionary tourist. He is the producer of
several award-winning documentary films on grassroots social movements in
Mexico and the Americas. Please see: http://gringoyo.com/\n\nHosted by The
Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Student Alliance and
Queer@CIIS, California Institute of Integral Studies\n\nDirections: or 415
