DESCRIPTION:Support indigenous resistance in Arizona! Learn about the US Government’s
and Peabody Coal’s campaign to destroy the Dine people through eviction,
pollution, environmental destruction and other forms of legislative
genocide. Come see this academy award-winning film about the struggle, hear
from members of the BMIS Caravan that visits the reservation in a
supportive capacity each year, and donate to this cause! $5-10 suggested,
no one turned away. Refreshments and socializing with your friendly
neighborhood radicals included!\n\nBroken Rainbow is the story of the
Dine’ people’s contemporary resistance to ongoing colonization of their
lands, people, and sovereignty by the US government and its Corporate ally,
the Peabody Coal Company. Since 1974 more than 14,000 Dine’ people have
been forcibly removed from their ancestral homelands by the U.S government,
following the discovery of enormous reserves of low sulfur coal underneath
their land. At this moment, Washington D.C. and Peabody Coal are planning
ways to expand their occupation of tribal lands to extract mineral & other
resources. These plans would exacerbate already devastating environmental
and cultural impacts on local communities. The resisting communities of
Black Mesa have fought these efforts for three decades by staying on their
land and continuing their traditional life-ways, despite ongoing harassment
from the government and Peabody Coal. This event benefits Black Mesa
residents in organizing caravans of activists and volunteers to bring
support to their communities before the approaching winter
 months.\n\n\n\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/10/19/18661699.php
