DESCRIPTION: Join us for an interactive day of food, fun and creative solutions for
community resilience, energy independence, and promoting traditional
ecological knowledge as we celebrate the international climate change work
day on 10-10-10.\n\n We'll be making adobe bricks and sharing the time
tested art of natural building, which emphasizes respect for traditional
environmental knowledge and also shows us valuable low energy methods for
making homes, community spaces, ovens and more. The bricks will then be
used to build the outdoor classroom at the School Farm.\n \n A
basic acorn preparation workshop will highlight California's pre-colonial
sustainable ecological food system based on oak trees and acorns. Learn
about the staple crop that supported the indigenous people of California
for thousands of years, long before fossil fuel powered agriculture.
\n\n See demonstrations of appropriate technology like solar ovens and
dehydrators, rocket stove, compost toilet, pedal power, and cob oven. \n
\n The ovens will be blazing so bring something to bake, pizza
toppings, or some other local fare to share and compare at our ultra local
potluck party. We're asking people to go as lo....cal as they can go by
bringing healthy, homemade food and drinks made from local ingredients.
More local means less energy consumption and more power to the people!\n\n
