DESCRIPTION:Benefit for Free Community Health Programs in Oakland & New
 Mexico\n\nFeaturing:\nEmbers\nSpeed of
 Darkness\nSomnolence\nCrucifixion\n\nEl Rio, 3158 Mission St.,
 SF\nThursday, September 9\nDoors at 8pm\n$5-10 sliding scale\n\nProceeds
will be split between the following programs:\n\nStreet Level Health
Project started in 2000 in East Oakland with the goal of improving the
health and well-being of underserved urban immigrant communities in the Bay
Area. The organization is an entry point to the health care system for
those most often overlooked and neglected, namely the uninsured,
underinsured, and recently arrived. The programs are particularly geared
towards the local day laborer population. Street Level offers a wide
variety of free services, including: medical screening, a lunch program,
mental health support, and more. The Herbal Medicine/Nutrition program
began in October 2009, with the aim of offering alternative and
preventative options for both acute and chronic conditions. These services
are available in Spanish & English every Tuesday
 afternoon.\nhttp://www.streetlevelhealth.org\n\nCrystal, NM is located in
the heart of the Navajo Nation approximately 30 miles northeast of Window
Rock, AZ, the Navajo Nation capital. With this project we are hoping to
bring comprehensive, alternative, holistic methods of treatment to the
community, on private property. This concept is more similar to
traditional Navajo healing ceremonies which are generally hosted by a
family rather than an impersonal clinic setting which is antithetical to
Navajo cultural beliefs. The Begay family, a large, locally well-known,
extended family, has hosted many traditional ceremonies, and has kindly
offered to host this project as well. We hope not only to bring more
culturally compatible medicine to the community of Crystal, NM, but we also
hope that there is a spark of interest on the part of some local residents
in learning CranioSacral Therapy or Traditional Chinese Medicine, in which
case, an apprenticeship program will be
 offered.\nhttp://www.casabesu.org/navajoproject.htm\n\n
