DESCRIPTION:Open Native American Flute Circle\n\nFriday, July 16, 6 p.m.\n\nRedbird’s
Children of Many Colors Powwow\n7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, CA
93021\n\nJoin us for a relaxing evening of flute music hosted by some of
southern California’s finest Native American flutists, and some of our up
and coming musical talent. The flute circle is open to all flute players.
\n\nCherokee flutist Bill Neal will MC the circle. This is a free-form,
open microphone family event. Spontaneous musical collaboration is one of
the thrilling parts of this gathering. It is also an excellent opportunity
for those looking to purchase a flute or meet fellow musicians to spend an
evening in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.\n\nThe flute, like the drum, is
central to many indigenous cultures throughout the world. In most cases
the Native American flute is known as an instrument of love, used by a man
to court the woman of his desire. Today both men and women have taken up
the art of the flute.\n\nThe flute circle is accompanied by a potluck style
feed, and the Native American Southern Drum Crooked Hat is usually there to
offer their own songs; dinner music, Native American style.\n\nThe
gathering is hosted by Redbird, a non profit Native American and
environmental organization based in Simi Valley, California. A $2.00 per
vehicle donation is suggested; there is no admission fee, and everyone is
welcome to attend. Chairs will be provided; blankets are welcome.\n\n\n\n
