DESCRIPTION:Act Now to Protect Clean Energy Choice!\nJoin the Campaign to Defeat Prop
16\n\n\nThe tide is turning against Prop 16, PG&E's Monopoly Protection
Act. Opposition to this deceptive ballot initiative has grown in recent
weeks to include major cities, businesses, and community groups.\n\nJoin
the Local Clean Energy Alliance and The Utility Reform Network for THE
campaign event of the season, featuring some of the most powerful Bay Area
voices for energy choice and an inclusive green economy.\n\n We CAN Defeat
PG&E's Prop 16 and\nProtect Clean Energy Choice!\n\nMark Toney of The
Utility Reform Network (TURN) will discuss how we can get 10,000 people
statewide making 100 calls in the final month of the campaign. Megan
Matson of Mainstream Moms Organize or Bust (MMOB) will present the Voter
Outreach Platform (used by Obama's campaign), the Bay Area Get Out The Vote
(GOTV) effort, ways to create buzz with the forthcoming No on Prop 16 film
series, and how you can plug into these efforts.\n\nThere are ample
opportunities for every one to get involved including -- but not limited to
-- phone banking, throwing house parties, and reaching out to
organizations. Representatives of the Grassroots Working Group will discuss
a variety of ways people can participate in defeating Prop 16. Join
us!\n\nFinger foods and drinks will be provided.\n\nThis meeting is
 co-sponsored by:\n\n * Bay Localize\n * TURN (The Utility Reform
 Network) \n * Ella Baker Center\n * Greenlining Institute\n *
 Local Clean Energy Alliance\n * No on 16 Grassroots Working Group\n *
Sierra Club Bay Chapter\n\nProp 16 would lock PG&E's high rates into the
California Constitution by locking out community choice and public power.
Prop 16 would require a super-majority vote in any community that wants to
switch to a greener or cheaper non-profit energy provider.\n\nWithout
choice, customers will have to accept:\n\n * PG&E's high rates instead of
the lower rates of non-profit utilities\n * Even higher rates in the
future: PG&E has over $6 billion more in rate hikes currently pending at
the California Public Utilities Commission\n * PG&E greenwashing instead of
real green energy and real green jobs\n\nPlease RSVP to
 craig@baylocalize.org\n\n\n
