DESCRIPTION:The Changing Face of Workers Struggles Worldwide and the Resurgence of May
Day Marches in the U.S.\n\nAn illustrated talk by Sharat G. Lin\n\nWhile
traditional bureaucratic trade unions have been on the decline in the U.S.
and some other industrialized countries, the dimensions of workers
struggles have expanded worldwide. Most notable has been the spread of
movements of workers in previously unorganized sectors. The May Day
convergence of workers' and working immigrants' struggles in the U.S. is a
response to the social contradictions of globalized capitalism. A refined
class analysis is a prerequisite to addressing the socio-economic interests
of differentiated strata of workers.\n\nSharat G. Lin is president of the
San Jose Peace and Justice Center. He writes on global political economy,
labor migration, the Middle East, and South Asia. His book chapter on the
resurgence of May Day marches for immigrant and workers' rights was
published recently in Studies in Inequality and Social Justice, 2009,
 edited by Kira Hall.\n\nDonation (sliding scale)\nWheelchair accessible\n
