DESCRIPTION:The first week of the 2009 Climate Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark was marked 
 by mass protests and meetings by activists at the forefront of the global 
 Environmental Justice movement.  Two longtime local activists with 
 international ties will offer a "Report Back from Copenhagen." Christie 
 Keith, International Co-Coordinator of Global Alliance for Incinerator 
 Alternatives (GAIA) and Gopal Dayaneni of Movement Generation Justice and 
 Ecology Project, will each discuss their work at the Climate Summit, with 
 an emphasis on how those outside of the G8 resist, renarrate and work to 
 restore the health of their communities.  Keith and Dayaneni will 
 contextualize their experiences in Copenhagen within the larger framework 
 of their everyday work and the EJ movement broadly.  And they will offer a 
 sense of next steps.\n\nFEATURED PANELISTS:\n\nChristie Keith, 
 International Co-Coordinator, Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives. 
 Christie Keith has more than 17 years of experience in international human 
 rights, social justice movement-building, non-profit organizational 
 development, and fundraising. In addition to GAIA, she has worked with the 
 Center for Research and Popular Education (CIEP), the U’wa Defense 
 Project, the Hesperian Foundation, and Health Care Without Harm.\n\nGopal 
 Dayaneni, Planning Committee for Movement Generation Justice and Ecology 
 Project.\nGopal Dayaneni has been involved in fighting for social, 
 economic, environmental and racial justice through organizing & 
 campaigning, teaching, writing, speaking and direct action since the late 
 1980's. He has worked with the International Accountability Project, the 
 Ruckus Society, and the Progressive Communicators Network. He is also the 
 lead organizer of the Education Circle of Change, building a transformative 
 movement in education committed to equity, justice and democracy.\n\nThis 
 event is free and open to the public.  All are welcome to participate.
