 3/15/2010 7:10 PM\n\nApproval of Agenda. M/s/a/.\n\nApproval of Minutes of 
 February 2010 meeting. M/S/A.\n\nTreasurer’s Report. As of now, all bills 
 paid, none outstanding, balance of $5455.\n\nChair’s Report. Asked Abdi 
 Soltani to be the keynote speaker at our annual meeting, June 19th, 12 noon 
 - 2 pm. Mr. Soltani tentatively agreed.\n\nChair reported that he did 
 attend the ACLU-NC retreat/lobby weekend in Sacramento this month. Saw film 
 “American Violet” regarding police abuses in Texas. Recommended the 
 film as a good ACLU talking point.\n\nChair introduced Abdi Soltani, and 
 introduced the Board members to him, along with the Board members’ 
 respective areas of civil-liberties interest. Mr. Soltani is now nearing 
 his first anniversary as Executive Director; he got interested in 
 civil-liberties starting in middle school. ACLU-NC is largest affiliate in 
 the country. Noted the latest hassle with the Texas school board and 
 textbook selection. Issues currently worked on:\n•	students’ rights 
 (here and nationwide, including the current Mississippi prom controversy). 
 School suspensions/expulsions and police officers on campus are major 
 concerns. Restorative justice solutions also an interest. Mr. Soltani now 
 interested in a Redding, CA, case involving drug testing and 
 extracurricular activities; could be decisive as it arose from a Bush 
 administration policy.\n•	War on drugs. Mr. Soltani noted the problem 
 highlighted in “American Violet” with incentive payments for drug 
 busts.\n•	Privacy/Patriot Act/surveillance issues. The affiliate had a 
 project related to civil liberties and information security, Nicky Ozer is 
 the contact. Concerned with Facebook account holders’ privacy. ACLU-NC 
 also pursuing litigation in electronic surveillance.\n•	Immigration. 
 Sheriffs’ practice of renting out jail cells and enforcing immigration 
 laws in hand with ICE. Bob Harmon mentioned the immigrants’ 
 car-impoundment case in San Rafael. Amalia at ACLU-NC is following these 
 cases in Northern California.\n•	Rendition. ACLU-NC is litigating a civil 
 torture-and-rendition case in San Jose, the Jepesen Dataplan 
 case.\n\nNon-agenda items and announcements. None.\n\nOld Business\n-- 
 Tiburon police-camera surveillance. Bob Harmon reports that we’re being 
 contacted; it may involve litigation. Will report further.,\n-- T-shirts. 
 ACLU T-shirts, with Marin County chapter printed on it, $6.00. Chair asked 
 for the board to approve a bulk order, not to exceed $400, students and 
 those who couldn’t afford them can get the T-shirts free. M/s/a.\n\n8. 
 New business. See committees, below.\n\n9. ACLU-NC Report. \nGeorge reports 
 that ACLU-NC working on freedom of speech, immigrant rights, reproduction 
 rights, LGBT rights, death penalty, cyber-liberties, racial profiling, 
 criminal justice privacy, prisoners’ right to vote, among other issues. 
 Howard Friedman educational project. Campaign (capital) for the Future now 
 at 92%. The conference in Sacramento earlier this month had a number of 
 informative symposia, and lobbying that Monday at the State Capitol.\n\n10. 
 Committee reports\n- Death Penalty.  Aref visited San Quentin recently and 
 saw the death chamber. George announced that tours can be arranged.\n\n- 
 Education. April 1st, Marin County Office of Education and ACLU-Marin 
 holding a joint presentation, “Culture Shift: Alternatives to 
 Suspension”. April 1, 3:30 to 5 pm, at the MCOE in San Rafael. Chapter 
 members will be meeting with County Superintendent this month. George is 
 monitoring a new case of bullying at Mill Valley Middle School.\n\n- Law 
 Enforcement. Local citizens may be bringing legal action against Tiburon 
 regarding the surveillance camera (see above). Bob Harmon will be in 
 contact. Also: the Marin Organizing Committee has a big meeting on 
 Wednesday, at St. Raphael’s Church, regarding the impounding of 
 immigrants’ vehicles by San Rafael PD; Chapter members (Law Enforcement 
 committee) may be in attendance. Lawsuit now under way regarding televising 
 of juvenile proceedings.\n\n- Nomination Committee. See above. Abdi Soltani 
 is prospective speaker. George welcomed new board member Max Diebel, and 
 asked Ben Cook if he’d be interested in joining.\n\n- Media Committee. 
 Regarding the Community Media Center, George announced a way that we can do 
 video programs without having to go through training at the CMC.\n\n- 
 Outreach Committee. Tabling at Farmers’ Markets in Marin
