SUMMARY:MPJC Potluck> No Desalinization in Marin: No to PG&E's Prop 16: Yes to Ca. Democracy Act
LOCATION:Event Updated\n\nMonday, March 1\nMarin Peace & Justice
 Coalition\n\nSpecial Event:\n6:00 PM Pot Luck \n7:15 PM
 Program\n\nPetitioning for Water, Energy & Democracy\nThree Ballot
Initiatives: \nOpposing Desalinization in Marin, \nOpposing PG&E's Prop
16,\nand Favoring the California Democracy Act\n\nGet on board with
campaigns and signature gatherers working for upcoming ballot
initiatives!\n\nThe "Responsible Water Initiative" gives residents of Marin
Municipal Water District the right to vote on whether or not to build a
controversial desalinization plant. The "desal" plant is now being
fast-tracked by the MMWD Board. Adam Scow from Food and Water Watch will
speak. \n\nPG&E's Prop 16, designed to prevent local control of
alternative energy, is on the June 8 ballot. Odiously, it would force any
local governments that want to establish electrical service to win approval
of 2/3 of their voters. Local environmental campaigners will
speak.\n\nThirdly, Rick Massell will speak on the "California Democracy
Act". This key initiative would change the state constitution: "All
legislative actions on revenue and budget must be determined by a majority
vote." This would end gridlock of state spending, etc. Let's do
it!\n\nSpecial segment: Zhenya Spake will facilitate a discussion and role
play on the art of petitioning.\n\nWhere:\nFirst United Methodist Church of
San Rafael (in the basement) \n9 Ross Valley Drive\nthe west end of San
Rafael,\nat the corner or Greenfield and Ross Valley Dr., \njust off the
Miracle Mile (Fourth St.) \nacross from Bedrock Music and not far from Cafe
 Gratitude.\n
