Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the
principle that teaching forgiveness and nonviolence are forces for peace,
physical healing and psychological equilibrium. Founded in 1996 by Robert
 W. Plath, an attorney in Mill Valley, the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance
seeks to prove that creating the “life skills of forgiveness and
nonviolence” will reduce conflict and violence, alleviate stress, improve
health and create a more abundant and empowered perspective on life.\n\nOne
of the primary goals of the Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance is to establish
International Forgiveness Day as a globally celebrated holiday.
International Forgiveness Day, annually, is designated as the first Sunday
in August. The focus of the International Forgiveness Day celebration is to
honor those identified as heroes and champions of forgiveness, nonviolence
and peace. The Worldwide Forgiveness Alliance also conducts forgiveness
seminars for abused women, the elderly and to middle school youth.\n\nII.
ACTIONS FOR PEACE\n\nPlease take a few minutes during this Season of
Nonviolence to write a letter to the editor, write to your Senator and/or
Congressperson, send your legislators a Valentine, and/or shop for peace.
Every action plants the seeds of peace. Please e-mail a copy of your
letters and cards to sunmntain@aol.com or
 kendramon@comcast.net.\n\nValentine Legislative Action\n\nSend a
Valentine’s Day card to your member of Congress, Senator Barbara Boxer,
Senator Dianne Feinstein and President Obama asking them to support and the
Department of Peace legislation and the Youth PROMISE Act. For the Dept. of
Peace, the U.S. House bill number is HR-808; a Senate bill is still
 pending. For the Youth PROMISE Act, the U.S. House bill number is H.R.1064;
a Senate bill is S.435.\n\nThe legislation for a U.S. Dept. of Peace calls
for $10 billion dollars to reduce and prevent violence, 85% of which will
be committed to addressing violence in the United States. The Youth PROMISE
Act implements the best policy recommendations from crime policy makers,
researchers, practitioners, analysts, and law enforcement officials from
across the political spectrum concerning evidence- and research-based
strategies to reduce gang violence and crime.\n\nThe United States now has
the highest average incarceration rate of any nation in the world and the
cost of incarceration in this country has risen to over $65 billion a year.
All the credible research and evidence shows that a continuum of
evidenced-based prevention and intervention programs for at-risk youth will
greatly reduce crime and save much more than they cost. We must engage
youth in positive ways through education, after school programs, sports, as
well as family and community support to keep kids away from the dangers of
gangs and other violent activities. The challenges of violence demand our
full resources and attention.\n\nShopping for Peace\n\nMany of us shop
on-line, and Valentine’s Day is not too far away. Please consider taking
a few extra minutes to use the links from The Peace Alliance homepage
 (www.thepeacealliance.org) to Amazon.com and IGive.com. Without spending
any more money, you can generate needed funds to support The Peace Alliance
in efforts to create a culture of peace.\n\nNancy Merritt\nNorthern
California State Coordinator\nCampaign for a U.S. Department of
Peace\nsunmntain@aol.com\n\nJoin this historic effort to create a culture
of peace.\n\nThis email was sent to select members of The Peace Alliance on
behalf of the Northern California Regional Campaign for a U.S. Department
 of Peace.\n\nThe Peace Alliance\nwww.ThePeaceAlliance.org\n
