DESCRIPTION:One year after the historic arrest of BART cop Johannes Mehserle, the
triggerman who killed Oscar Grant III on New Year’s morning of 2009,
organizer and journalist Minister of Information JR and activist and punk
rock artist Holly Works are still facing charges from the Oakland
Rebellions that secured his indictment.\n\nCome out on Wednesday, Jan. 13,
the anniversary of Mehserle’s arrest, and learn what’s going on in the
movement against police terrorism. This fundraiser for JR and Holly, the
remaining members of the Oakland 100, is being held on the anniversary of
Mehserle’s arrest. Everyone is invited to the legendary Black Dot Café,
1195 Pine St. in West Oakland at 7 p.m.\n\nHear\n\n * Cynthia McKinney,
former congresswoman and presidential candidate who will be the narrator
for the film “Operation Small Axe”;\n * Jack Bryson, father of two
sons who were with Oscar Grant the night he was executed;\n * Minister
of Information JR, one of the two remaining members of the Oakland 100,
POCC organizer, and journalist with Block Report Radio and the SF Bay View
newspaper; and\n * Holly Works, one of the two remaining Oakland 100,
activist and political punk rock artist.\n\nWatch a screening of the new
15-minute short of the upcoming film, “Operation Small Axe,” about
Oakland’s fight against police terrorism in 2009. The film has just been
chosen to be screened in the prestigious Pan African Film Festival in Los
Angeles in February.\n\nDonations of $10 to $1,000 are requested, but no
one will be turned away for lack of funds. Funds are needed for JR and
Holly’s legal defense and to replace JR’s camera. Oakland police seized
it when he was arrested while covering the rebellion as a journalist and,
though he needs it to support his family, they still have not returned
 it.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/01/07/18634627.php
