DESCRIPTION:Though not technically a natural “ecosystem” – our food system
deserves special consideration in the context of climate change. The way we
gather, produce, and consume our food has profound environmental
implications. And conversely, what's happening in the environment
profoundly effects our food. We'll explore these themes as we screen the
upcoming PBS documentary "Nourish" - narrated by Cameron Diaz - followed by
a collection of animated shorts from Free Range Studios - including "Store
Wars" and the full "Meatrix" trilogy. The producers of each will be on hand
for discussions following the screenings. \n\n6pm - 7pm: Nourish and
discussion with Dr. Kirk Bergstrom\n7pm - 8pm: Store Wars, the Meatrix and
discussion with Erica Priggen\nDr. Kirk Bergstrom is founder and President
of WorldLink Foundation. In this capacity, he has directed special projects
for such clients as the United Nations, State of the World Forum, PBS, Walt
Disney Imagineering, and Tech Museum of Innovation. A filmmaker and social
entrepreneur, Kirk has developed and produced award-winning television,
interactive multimedia, websites, museum exhibits, and educational
curricula. He recently wrote and directed the PBS special Power Shift, a
half-hour program on energy and sustainability. He also directed and
produced Spaceship Earth: Our Global Environment, winner of two national
Emmy Awards. In 1995, Kirk produced A Place to Stand, the official global
television program for the UN’s 50th Anniversary.\n\nErica Priggen is an
Executive Producer at Free Range Studios, where she heads the video and
entertainment department, overseeing the creative and strategic development
of all of the company's video campaigns. With a Master's in Consciousness
Studies, she brings a deep study of sustainability and systems thinking to
her work, with a concentration on the importance of storytelling and
mythology as tools for cultural transformation. She believes that film is
one of the most effective ways to inspire people to action. Erica is the
producer of Free Range's award-winning The Story of Stuff, as well as other
hits such as 350.org, The Good Life, and the Alliance for Climate
Education's national high school assembly program.\n
