DESCRIPTION:Carolina Dutton and Dale Sorensen were part of a Task Force/SOA Watch
delegation to Chile. On October 12th (Indigenous people’s Day) they
participated in a march for indigenous rights in Santiago Chile. The focus
of the march was to call out for an end to the repression, exploitation,
racism and degradation of the ancestral land belonging to the Indigenous
nations of Chile. The largest is the Mapuche nation, close to 10% of the
Chilean population.\n\n The delegation traveled south to the
region where one half of the Mapuche population resides. It was here that
they were able to visit political prisoners and witnessed firsthand the
repression of the Mapuche by the Chilean government who accuse them of
“terrorism” when they try and take back their lands that have been
stolen by the Chilean government and big logging corporations. \n\n
The program includes a video, “The Voice of the Mapuche,” slides and
an exhibit of drawings by a very special political prisoner, Juana
Culfunao.\n\n$10-20 donation requested; a benefit for purchase of video
equipment to document human rights violations by police during raids of
Mapuche communities.\n\nSponsored by The Task Force on the Americas\n\nFor
