attack. Hundreds of police\nand hired thugs are attacking the Ssangyong
Motor sit-in strike by\nauto workers. These workers are demanding
negotiations over their\nlayoffs. The company has refused to negotiate and
instead with the\nsupport of the state the management illegally hired thugs
to beat up\nthe workers using baseball bats, steel pipes and martial
arts\nweapons(nunchaku). They came on July 21, 2009 to the plant
to\nseriously injure the striking workers which they did. They beat
up\nworkers who had no possibility of resisting arrest or
defending\nthemselves.\nThis vicious attack on the Ssangyong Motor workers
has been condemned\nby the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions KCTU and
they have called\nfor a General Strike and also for solidarity actions at
all Korean\nEmbassies and Consulates around the world. The use of
organized\nprivatized thugs to attack workers must be protested throughout
the\nworld.\nhttp://kctu.org/3668\nThese attacks are not only against the
striking auto workers but also\nagainst the Korean Teachers and Education
Workers Union (KTU, Jeon Gyo\nJo) for criticizing the Lee Myung-bak
administration. The government\nhas announced plans to discipline all
17,000 members of the union such\nas firing 88 individuals who led or
contributed to the statement. The\nunion has charged that the government is
 seeking to exterminate the\npublic school
 teachers.\nhttp://english.hani.co.kr/arti/engli...al/362679.html\nAt the
same time 13 thousand Korean National Union of Media Workers\nKNUM is
striking to protest a new law that would increase censorship\nunder the
Broadcasting Law and hurt workers rights under the Irregular\nWorker Law.
Both these anti-labor laws were pushed through without\ndebate by the
ruling Grand National Party to suffocate democracy and\nfreedom of the
 press.\nhttp://english.hani.co.kr/arti/engli...al/366741.html\nhttp://english.hani.co.kr/arti/engli...al/367178.html\nPlease
