DESCRIPTION:Every July day has Laborfest events, some of which are missing from the red
letter listings. This "al fresco" textbook for all of us will teach the
importance of a general strike which we need to put an end to the profit
motive that is the cause of the budget "crisis" and war. On Saturday
morning, July 18, you can enjoy the fresh air and learn labor history while
you exercise on a free tour of the notable sites of the 1934 San Francisco
General Strike.\n\nJuly 18 (Saturday) 10:00 AM (Free) Meet at Harry Bridges
Plaza - Front of Ferry Building, SF\nHarry Bridges Plaza at the Front of
Ferry Building, San Francisco (Embarcadero BART, F, N and T trains, 12 bus,
all buses and trains on Market, Mission and Embarcadero ending at
Embarcadero/Ferry Bldg). \n\nJoin a walk with historian Luis Prisco, ILWU
Local 10 longshoreman Jack Heyman and musician David Rovics. This walk and
history talk will look at the causes of the 1934 General Strike and why it
was successful. We will discuss how the strike was organized and why the
issues in that strike are still relevant to working people today. We will
also walk by the key historical sites in this important US labor struggle.
Bring your lunch with you and wear good walking shoes so you can get your
