DESCRIPTION:Since June 2008, workers at two major San Francisco hotels have called upon
management to permit them to choose whether or not to form a union without
fear of intimidation, harassment, and other scare tactics. They have asked
the two hotel companies – Hyatt Hotels and HEI Hotels & Resorts – to
adopt the same, fair “majority sign-up” process that has been used by
numerous other hotel companies in San Francisco and throughout North
America.\n\nDespite repeated calls from workers, community supporters, and
student groups throughout the country, Hyatt and HEI have refused. As a
result, on February 24, 2009, many workers at both HEI Le Meridien and the
Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf delivered their signed petitions to management,
calling on guests to boycott these hotels. The June 18th march celebrates
the courage and determination of these workers to continue to fight for
dignity and respect on the job.\n\nUNITE HERE! Local 2 is the union of
hotel and food service workers in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. It
represents about 13,000 workers in the hospitality industry, For more
