DESCRIPTION:Is Dad Green? Take him on a Solar Tour this Father’s Day.\n \n \n \nFree
Solar Water Heating Tour & Exhibit\nEvent Celebrates International Solar
 Day\n \nMore Information at: www.solarday.com\n \n \nWHAT: Free
Solar Water Heating Tour & Exhibit. Biodiesel buses will shuttle
participants to five sites. \n \nWHO: Open to the public\n
 \nWHEN: Sunday, June 21, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM\n \nWHERE:
Justin Herman Plaza\n \nWHY: With rising energy costs and
increasing environmental concerns, San Franciscans are searching for more
information about renewable energy options. While solar electric has
received a good deal of attention, solar water heating has been largely
overlooked. The Solar Water Heating Tour & Exhibit will educate San
Franciscans on how to turn their twin desires for lower monthly utility
costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions into reality.\n \n \nSan Francisco
 - A Solar Water Heating Tour & Exhibit, designed to educate residents,
businesses, multi-tenant building owners and non-profits on the advantages
of solar water heating, will be held on Sunday, June 21. The free tour will
visit five installations in the City—including homes, businesses and
multi-tenant buildings—and will be held in conjunction with a Solar Water
Heating Exhibit in Justin Herman Plaza. Biodiesel buses will leave at 10:00
 and 11:00 AM on a first-come, first-served basis. \n \nThe tour will
include information on solar water heating costs and incentive programs,
installation, and environmental impacts. The event is part of Solar Day
2009, the first annual celebration of solar energy and its role in national
energy independence, to be held on the first day of summer.\n \nA typical
household in San Francisco spends almost $1,000 a year on gas bills. With
existing federal tax credits and a state-wide solar water heating incentive
program on the horizon, solar water heating can be an increasingly
attractive option.\n \n “Water heating accounts for more than 4% of San
Francisco’s total CO2 emissions,” said Jared Blumenfeld, Director, San
Francisco Department of the Environment. “Solar water heating can help
bring utility costs down while providing new green jobs, addressing climate
change and ensuring a secure, local independent energy supply.” For more
