DESCRIPTION:Joel Beinin, Professor of Middle East History at Stanford University, will 
 speak on US involvement in the Israel-Palestinian conflict.  The focus will 
 be on U.S culture, politics, and geostrategic interests as they relate to 
 the Middle East.  \n\nPart Two of a FIVE PART LECTURE SERIES entitled: 
 \nAFTER GAZA: WHAT NEXT FOR ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS?\n\nLecture followed 
 by Q&A.\n\nJoel Beinin has taught Middle East history at Stanford since 
 1983. Since 1965 he has lived and worked for extended periods in Israel and 
 Egypt and traveled broadly throughout the Middle East and North Africa.  He 
 received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1982, his A.M. from 
 Harvard University in 1974, and his A.B. from Princeton University in 1970. 
  Beinin has written or edited seven books, most recently Workers and 
 Peasants in the Modern Middle East (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and 
 The Struggle for Sovereignty: Palestine and Israel, 1993-2005, co-edited 
 with Rebecca Stein (Stanford University Press, 2006). He has appeared on 
 Al-Jazeera TV, BBC radio, (US) National Public Radio, many other TV and 
 radio programs, and print publications throughout the world.\n\nRemaining
