DESCRIPTION:Workers Memorial Day is held every April 28, 2009 to commemorate the
workers who have been injured or killed on the job. Tens of thousands of
workers in California have been seriously injured and have been refused
healthcare by company doctors in a deregulated workers comp system. Ca-Osha
has also eliminated all doctors at the agency for California's 17 million
workers. This year's Workers Memorial day will also focus on the many toxic
sites in the US that were supposed to be cleaned up by private developers
but were not. Workers and community people have been sickened. We will also
look at the health and safety dangers of new technologies including
biotechnology and nanotechnology which have been introduced into the
environment without proper oversight and health and safety
 protection.\n\n\nSF April 28, 2009 Workers Memorial Day \nSpeak-Out To
Protect \nHealth And Safety On The Job \nWorkers Memorial Day was
established to commemorate and defend workers injured and killed on \nthe
job. This year, the California Coalition For Workers Memorial Day (CCWMD)
will also focus \non the need for health and safety protection, regulation
and standards for new industries such as \nbiotechnology and
nanotechnology. These industries are not properly regulated with strong
health \nand safety standards. The CCWMD is calling for national
Congressional hearings on these issues \nand also for the defense of
injured workers who face a deregulated workers comp system in which
\nseriously injured workers are not able to get proper healthcare and
compensation. We need to get \nthe insurance industry out of healthcare, so
all workers can get healthcare. \nThe elimination of all doctors at Ca-Osha
is another dangerous threat that threadens the health and \nsafety of 17
million workers of California particularly those facing the use of new
technology in \nthe workplace. Many dangerous toxic sites in Northern
California and around the country have \nbeen privatized and labeled
“Brownfield” sites. Workers, veterans and community people have \nalso
been sickened by the failure to clean these sites. \nTuesday, April 28,
