  \n“Then and Now” - Photographs by Sebastiåo Salgado -- The 
 inaugural exhibition at the David Brower Center’s Hazel Wolf Gallery. 
 Designed and curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, these 25 images tell the 
 story of an era, tracing the human and environmental impacts of modern 
 industrial civilization through the lives of workers, the rural poor and 
 the displaced.   Recent work investigates nature in its original state 
 focusing on flora, fauna and human communities.   As a photographer, 
 Salgado exposes injustice and captures the dignity common to all mankind.  
 As an activist, his photography exemplifies art’s potential to inspire

 Hazel Wolf Gallery is located at street level of the new David Brower 
 Center, set to open in May, 2009. The nonprofit David Brower Center is a 
 vibrant place that inspires, sustains, and brings together people committed 
 to environmental and social action. The Center offers educational and arts 
 programs, stunning conference and event facilities, and high-quality office 
 space for nonprofits -- all in the greenest building in Berkeley. It is 
 named to honor David Brower, a Berkeley native who many consider the father
