DESCRIPTION:Continuing Studies is proud to sponsor the sixth annual Company of Authors,
which has quickly become a Stanford tradition—a Spring "book salon"
featuring the rich variety of writers associated with the University. In
the comfortable and collegial setting of the Stanford Humanities Center, as
many as fifteen writers in all genres from fiction to history, theoretical
physics to memoir, will read excerpts from their latest books.\n\nThis
year's readings will include, among others, Gordon Chang on Asian-American
art, Paul Goldstein and his legal thrillers, Robert Harrison on gardens,
Joshua Landy and Michael Saler on enchantment, Richard Lyman on Stanford in
turmoil from 1966 to 1972, Jennifer Summit on medieval books and their
relevance to the current state of libraries, and the consummate
storyteller, Tobias Wolff.\n\nJust added to the program: Denise Gigante,
Bliss Carnochan, Hilton Obenzinger, Edith Gelles, Abraham Verghese, Donald
Kennedy and Darryl Wheye, Paul Brest and Hal Harvey, John Hatcher, and
Katheryn Miller.\n\nThe program is hosted by Peter Stansky, Field Professor
of History, Emeritus, and is co-sponsored by the Stanford Humanities
Center, the Stanford Bookstore, and the Palo Alto Weekly.\n\nDrop in, or
indulge yourself by spending the entire afternoon in the company of these
bright, entertaining, and stimulating writers. The Stanford Bookstore will
sell books at a 10% discount, and authors will sign copies. Refreshments
will be provided.\n \nFREE; no registration required Open to the public\n\n
