DESCRIPTION:Mark Schapiro, the editorial director of the Center for Investigative
Reporting, will be discussing his book Exposed: The Toxic Chemistry of
Everyday Products and What's at Stake for American Power. This book
investigates the response of U.S. business to the heightening of
environmental standards in the European Union. It reveals the significant
expansion of intercontinental lobbying by U.S. industry and government and
the global geopolitical implications of the U.S. retreat from principles of
environmental protection. Mark will highlight how Americans are being
exposed to an array of environmental hazards in personal-care products,
toys, electronics, and foods, from which people elsewhere are protected.
The Northern Alameda County Group's "Green Friday" events combine
interesting speakers with potlucks; please bring a healthy snack or dish to
share.\nTime: 6pm.\n\nCost: Free and open to the public.\n\n
