DESCRIPTION:Many of the Presidio's rarest plants can be found in postage-stamp sized
patches of remnant coastal prairie habitat that escaped disturbance and
construction. One of the rarest plants in the Presidio, San Francisco owl's
clover, clings to existance in a few such spots. Join staff of the Presidio
Trust and the Presidio Native Plant Nursery on a search for this rare plant
and others at sites such as the Log Cabin Prairie, Washington Ave. Prairie,
and Sumner Avenue Grassland. These special places are a reminder of the
treeless wildflower prairies that once covered much of San Francisco. This
trip will have a practical purpose too, with your keen eyes, we may
discover or re-discover populations of some rare species. Any new
populations would be important seed sources for restoration and contribute
to the genetic diversity of rare plant populations throughout the
park.\n\nIf folks are interested there will be an optional walk around the
Coastal Bluffs afterwords to see what else is blooming.\n\n
