DESCRIPTION:Celebrate our 5th Annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale with the students,
teachers, volunteers and staff of the Edible Schoolyard. All plants in the
sale are grown in the Edible Schoolyard garden and are excellent starts for
healthy Bay Area gardens. We will be offering annual vegetables, annual and
perennial herbs and flowers, culinary and tea herbs, fruit plants galore
and a tasty selection of heritage tomato plants. Crafts and cut flowers as
well as other surprises will also be available. This sale supports the
ongoing life and health of the ESY garden.\n\nSaturday Only - Edible
Schoolyard Jamboree!\nThis year we've expanded our plant sale to include a
community celebration. Join us for pizza by the slice from our wood burning
oven, freshly tossed garden salad, local food vendors, live music, and
garden and kitchen tours lead by King Students. Saturday, May 9th 2009,
free to the public. \n\nAbout Us:\n\nThe Edible Schoolyard (ESY),
established in 1995, is a one-acre garden and kitchen classroom at Martin
Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Berkeley, California. It is a program of
the Chez Panisse Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by chef and
author Alice Waters.\n\nThe garden started as a cover crop in a vacant lot
with once-monthly student participation. More than a decade later, it is a
thriving acre of vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers. Now, each student
at King Middle School attends 12 to 30 sessions in ESY kitchen and garden
classrooms, depending on grade level. ESY reaches each of the nearly one
thousand students at King Middle School.\n\nThe visibility of ESY has also
increased. The program hosts over 1,000 visitors each year—from
educators, to health professionals, to international delegates—and has
inspired countless kitchen and garden programs. In 2005 we launched our
first affiliate program in New Orleans, Louisiana. Today, we have a small
network of Edible Schoolyard affiliate programs in cities across the
 country.\n\n\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/03/24/18581829.php
