DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday, March 24th, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer activists
and allies will kick off their March to Sacramento.\n\nThe Raging Grannies
will start of the event with a Repeal Prop 8 singing performance, then the
event will begin with a press conference at San Francisco City Hall. The
week-long March from San Francisco to Sacramento is demanding the repeal of
proposition 8 and also creating an opportunity for LGBT rights organizers
to meet with local communities and forge new alliances.\n\n"Our goal is to
build bridges between the marriage equality movement and other movements
for social justice," said Kelly Hart Rivera, who has done most of the
organizing for the broad-based press conference. "This is a chance for
local leaders from a wide range of movements to show their support for
equal rights for all."\n\nSpeakers at the press conference will include SF
City Treasurer Jose Cisneros and Supervisor Bevan Dufty, along with John
Lewis and Stuart Gaffney, plaintiffs in the court battles before the
Supreme Court, Andrea Shorter of And Marriage 4 All, Rafael Mandelman of
the Harvey Milk Democratic Club and Paulie Schreck of COLAGE, and AIDS
activist Cleve Jones. Then the Brass Liberation Orchestra will play as
speakers and attendees kick off the March to Sacramento with a symbolic
walk from City Hall to the steps of the CA Supreme Court on
McAllister.\n\nOn Wednesday, March 25, the marchers will head to Berkeley
to begin their 5-day walk to the state capital in Sacramento. Along the
way, they will meet with local communities to share stories and to learn
about their struggles for social and economic justice. Plans for the walk
include volunteer work in the Delta town of Isleton, and a meeting with
 faith leaders in Walnut Creek.\n
