By: Zoyres Eastern European Wild Ferment plus others\n\nFerment Change is
an annual, all volunteer organized, celebration of Urban Agriculture, Food
Justice, Fermented Foods and Community to benefit City Slicker Farms in
West Oakland. The event highlights the work of City Slicker Farms'
“Backyard Garden Program”, and also features local food activists, a
fermented food and drink potluck, a fermentation workshop, live music, a
City Slicker Farms plant sale and a presentation on international urban
agriculture and food politics. Local fermentors that bring homemade
fermented foods or drinks are entered in a drawing to win lots of local
goodies. If you would like to bring a dish to the event, or would like to
host a fermentation themed event to benefit City Slicker Farms or any like
minded cause please email maxc@riseup.net. \n\n*More info on the great work
done by City Slicker Farms:\n\nCity Slicker Farms creates urban market
farms that provide affordable, fresh, organic produce to West Oakland
residents, serve as a community spaces for children and adults who want to
learn about farming, and assist local residents with setting up back yard
food gardens. Located in the Prescott neighborhood of West Oakland, the
project seeks to improve nutrition for residents, increase local food
security and self-reliance, and increase awareness about the connection
between food, health, and the urban environment. \n\nA truly grass-roots
project, City Slicker Farms relies for labor and direction on volunteers
who reside in the community we serve. Currently we have over 10,000 square
feet of garden space in the form of vacant urban lots under cultivation. A
seasonal variety of culturally appropriate fruits and vegetables are
distributed to the community for donation twice a week at a vegetable stand
in front of one of the farms. Other projects include a kitchen scrap
pickup/compost program, free classes and workshops, vegetable starts and
seeds for back yard gardeners, and volunteer and work-trade
 opportunities.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/03/13/18576779.php
