DESCRIPTION:International Women’s Day\nThroughout the history of class society, women
have been oppressed. However, as long as women have been oppressed, there
has been vibrant struggle to combat this oppression. Through struggle,
women have won the right to equal pay, to vote, to abortion and birth
control and more. They have engaged in fierce labor struggles, anti-racist
struggles and the fight for same-sex marriage. Join us for a discussion on
the role of women in the fight for socialism.\n\nSF Chronicle owners
threaten layoffs, closure\nClass warfare intensifies as capitalist crisis
widens\nIn another blow to U.S. newspaper workers, the San Francisco
Chronicle’s parent company, Hearst Corp., announced Feb. 25 that if it
does not turn around an estimated $50 million in losses through significant
job cuts and other measures, it would seek a buyer within a few weeks. If
that is unsuccessful, Hearst says it will shut down the paper.\n\nThe
sudden announcement and dire prediction by Hearst of possible eminent sale
and/or closure is intended to put the unions on the defensive. As the
capitalist crisis deepens, direct attacks against newspaper workers and
others will intensify. With every new corporate and government
announcement, it becomes clearer that the corporate owners who created the
crisis are seeking to protect profits by directly attacking workers. Come
hear a report by a long-time Chronicle worker on the struggle of local and
national newspaper workers to hold onto their jobs.\n\nMarch 21: Why
we’re marching on the Pentagon\nThe people of the United States want
change. We are sick and tired of wars of aggression waged abroad under
false slogans of “national security.” These are wars that reap massive
profits for corporate weapons-makers with the promise of winning control
over the vast oil and natural gas reserves in the Middle East and Central
Asia. There will be a presentation on the organizing taking place around
the country to get everyone out in the streets on March 21.\n\n
