DESCRIPTION:In front of dozens of witnesses, and captured on video, BART cop Johannes
Mehserle shot 22 year old Oscar Grant III while he was lying face down on
the platform of the Fruitvale BART station in the early morning of January
1.\n\nThere have been protests of police shootings in the recent past, but
none have matched the scale and effectiveness of those surrounding the
shooting of Oscar Grant. In the face of this movement, growing in both size
and anger, officer Mehserle was arrested on January 13th. But with Mehserle
now out on bail, the fight for justice continues.\n\nWhat will the impact
of having our first Black president have on the outrageous history of
police brutality in this country? The criminal justice system is an
ideological and economic crisis. In this new political period we can
organize with the confidence that we can make change and win justice for
Oscar Grant and countless others who have been brutalized by this
system.\n\nCome to a forum on how we can win justice for Oscar and build a
new Civil Rights Movement.\n\nFeaturing:\n\nKeeanga Yamahtta-Taylor, author
of the forthcoming New Orleans: An American Travesty.\n\nDana Blanchard,
organizer with Campaign to End the Death Penalty and Coalition Against
Police Execution (CAPE).\n\nWednesday, March 25th at 7:00pm\n110 Capp
Street\nSan Francisco, CA\n\nThis meeting will also take place the
preceding week at San Francisco State University, Santa Cruz, and
 Berkeley.\n\nSponsored by Haymarket Books.\n
