DESCRIPTION:he GTU Justice Collaborative is hosting a film preview and Poverty Truth
Commission hearing on poverty in Oakland on March 5. There will be an
informal networking and tabling hour beginning around 4:30pm. The formal
hearing starts at 5:30 with a Directorʼs cut preview from the forth-coming
film by Amir Soltani. Redemption tells the poignant, compelling stories of
several people who earn their living recycling out of the recycling center
in West Oakland, and the intricate perceptions and interdependence of their
community, which is a part of our community. After the film, the audience
will have a chance to hear from the filmmaker about his insights and
experiences making the film. Then, we will turn to testimonies about the
experience of poverty from those who recycle for a living, as well as from
grassroots organizations that work regularly with the recycling community.
A reception will follow at 8 pm.\n\nDonation for admission is $10 or groups
of ten or more at $5, but no one will be turned away. The proceeds will go
to the individuals that are testifying for the Poverty Truth Commission as
 an honorarium.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/02/23/18572753.php
