and visiting together. Feel free to bring your knitting!\n \nNear Civic
Center BART/MUNI\n\nThe American Friends Service Committee carries out
service, development, social justice, and peace programs throughout the
world. Founded by Quakers in 1917, AFSC's work attracts the support and
partnership of people of many races, religions, and cultures. AFSC's work
is based on the Quaker belief in the worth of every person and faith in the
power of love to overcome violence and injustice. AFSC's San Francisco
office organized the first supply container into the war region and
sponsored five Afghan-Americans to travel to Peshawar to distribute
blankets in the refugee camps.\n\nafghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and
educational people-to-people project that knits and crochets wool blankets,
sweaters, vests, socks, mittens, and hats for the people of Afghanistan.
The project started in response to the war that unfolded after 9/11. From
the start, afghans for Afghans has partnered with the San Francisco office
of the American Friends Service Committee and works with various relief and
humanitarian organizations, including A Little Help, Afghans 4 Tomorrow,
Church World Service, CURE Hospital, International Orphan Care, Roots of
Peace, and Afghan Widows Project. afghans for Afghans follows in the
American tradition of knitting for others at times of war and crisis.
Volunteers across the US and Canada have made more than 80,000 beautiful,
warm, top-quality blankets and garments as a gesture of friendship and
 respect for Afghan families.\n
