DESCRIPTION:Industrial uses have for decades dominated the shoreline and kept out local
residents. Two success stories in the Bay Area show how grassroots-led
restoration can change that. \n\nNational Park Service staff will speak
about Crissy Field, a restoration project in San Francisco that engaged
community members in creating a world-class waterfront park from a 100-acre
formerly contaminated military ground, raising over $34 million in private
funds. Following the presentation on Crissy Field, Literacy for
Environmental Justice will share stories from Heron's Head Park, a thriving
24-acre marsh built on a former landfill. Youth and community members
maintain this project annually. Q&A session to follow. \n \nRefreshment
will be provided. For more information, contact Juliana Gonzalez at (510)
