DESCRIPTION:We have seen weeks of stepped up harassment downtown (Mayor Coonerty's
"crackdown"). Most recently Sgt. Harms and other blueshirts drove away
drummers from the Drum Circle next to the Farmer's Market on Wednesday
 12-10. See \nhttp://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/12/03/18553519.php
\n\nOn Saturday morning, the annual but this year rather threadbare
merchant Xmas parade will come down Pacific Avenue. \n\nDecember 6th will
continue as a day of "honoring" the 60th Anniversary of the UN Declaration
of Human Rights with an afternoon talk, music, and fiesta at the Louden
Nelson Center (free to all).\n\nTo return a little reality-based activity
to Pacific Avenue, HUFF (Homeless United for Friendship & Freedom) and HRO
(the Human Rights Organization) will set up a table in front of Borders,
and do a Saturday evening Copwatch.\n\nAround 9:30 PM, in honor of the
Christian evangelist foodservers ticketed on November 13th (for providing
sandwiches and song to hungry poor people there), Jumbogumbo Joe Schultz
will ladle out a hot tasty vegan soup against the cold weather and colder
hearts of the Downtown Association, Coonerty-Mathews City Council, and
SCPD.\n\nLater that night, we will challenge Santa Cruz to legalize outdoor
sleeping (95% of the homeless will be outside that night without shelter in
Santa Cruz) as Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, Richmond, and Palo Alto have
done. We invite the community of housed and homeless people to join us,
either in their vehicles or outside.\n\nWarning: sleeping is illegal in
Santa Cruz after 11 PM at night, outside or in a vehicle. lying down on
the sidewalk is illegal on Pacific Avenue 24 hours per day.\n\nOn Sunday
morning, Free Radio Santa Cruz will present Bathrobespierre's Broadsides--a
debate on civil liberties in Santa Cruz and up at UCSC as Councilmember
Mike Rotkin and others debate 9:30 AM - 10 PM on 101.1 FM
(www.freakradio.org). Call-in at 831-427-3772.\n\nJoin us to do sentry
duty against abusive police behavior downtown Saturday night. \n\nStand
with the homeless to restore the UN Declaration of Human Rights in Santa
Cruz: sleep out or stay awake with the homeless through the night.\n\nCall
in to report your experiences Sunday morning (8:30 AM-1 PM) on Free
 Radio.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/12/04/18553665.php
