 \n\n6:00pm SATURDAY\n\nEVENING PANEL\n\n \n\nThe\n\nFight for Gay
Marriage\n\n \n\nWith Sherry Wolf, author of Sexuality and\n\nSocialism:
History, Politics and Theory of Gay Liberation  \n\n \n\nIn conversation
with: Rose Aguilar, host of\n\nKALW's Your\n\nCall and author of Red
 Highways\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n“Change Has Come to America ,” as Barack
Obama put\n\nit in his victory speech before a multi-racial crowd of
250,000\n\nChicagoans.  Across the country, from LA to Seattle \n\nto
Atlanta to Harlem ,\n\nhundreds of thousands of people danced in the
streets, celebrating the end of\n\nthe Bush Regime and profound impact of
the election of an African American\n\npresident.  But as Obama himself
put it, “This isn’t the\n\nchange we want, it’s only the opportunity
to make the change we\n\nwant.”  So, what kind of changes do we want and
how will we get\n\nthem?  Proposition 8’s passage shows that nothing
is\n\nautomatic.  It’s still true that the only rights we have are
 the\n\nones we fight for.  \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\nSince Bush stolen election
in 2000, the left has been on the\n\ndefensive.  But Obama’s election
and the escalating economic crisis\n\nhave broken the framework of politics
as usual.  Now is the time to shake\n\noff our pessimism, raise our
expectations and get to work.  Now everything\n\nis up for grabs:  health
care, jobs, education, abortion, Iraq and Afghanistan , prisons, gay
marriage\n\nand immigrant rights.  Now even the business pages admit that
 “Marx\n\nmay have been right about a few things.” \n\n \n\n \n\n
\n\nSo consider coming to the Socialist Conference to learn\n\nabout how to
fight for and win the reforms we need, while we discuss and debate\n\nthe
future revolutionary change we believe is necessary. \n\n \n\n \n\n
