DESCRIPTION:San Francisco, CA - Climate change has emerged as one of the most pressing
challenges facing the world today. Scientists predict that global warming
will become a leading cause of species extinction over the next several
decades. On Tuesday December 16th a panel of experts and scientists will
provide local perspectives on the threat climate change and global warming
poses to imperiled Bay Area wildlife at the San Francisco Public Library
beginning at 6:00 PM. This educational event will feature speakers from a
the Institute for Fisheries Research, Gulf of Farallones National Marine
Sanctuary, California Academy of Science, Golden Gate National Recreation
Area (GGNRA) and Golden Gate Audobon. \n\nTopics of discussion will include
the plight of some of the most important wildlife species threatened by
climate change in the Bay Area, including the Pacific Salmon and local
marine mammals and birds. The California Academy of Science will give a
global report on the devastating impact climate change plays on wildlife in
general, and experts from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area will
speak about the dangers facing the 16 imperiled species located within the
GGRNA, a national park located in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin
Counties. \n\nThe event is free and open to the public, and coincides with
the Irreplaceable: Wildlife in a Warming World, a nation-wide traveling
photo exhibit and campaign dedicated to raising awareness and recognition
of the severe threat of climate change and global warming to imperiled
species, currently on display at the San Francisco Public Library through
December 30th.\n\nFor more information please visit
